Miss Dorothy Gladstone began teaching in the Victorian Railways Institute building in Flinders St in approximately 1921. The VRI records show she had a permanent booking in room 56 for over sixty years. She set the standard for those in the Society that followed her to keep abreast of new trends and choreography. Dorothy went on annual trips to London and New York where she was would gain new ideas from Broadway and West End shows.
